Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs (use a paper towel to grip and pull it off).
Rinse the ribs under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
Prepare the dry rub: mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and brown sugar. Rub the mixture all over the ribs.
Cover the ribs and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is even better for deeper flavor).
Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (375°F) for 5 minutes.
Cut the rack into halves or quarters to fit in the air fryer basket. Lightly brush with olive oil using a pastry brush or spray.
Cook for 25-30 minutes at 190°C (375°F), turning the ribs halfway through.
During the last 5-7 minutes of cooking, generously brush the ribs with BBQ sauce on both sides and let caramelize.
Check internal temperature: at least 63°C (145°F) for safety, but for tender ribs that pull off the bone, aim for 88-93°C (190-200°F).
Remove ribs from the air fryer and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Serve hot, with extra BBQ sauce on top and optional garnishes like chopped parsley or sesame seeds.
