- 4 slices of bread;
- 4 slices of ham;
- 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your favorite);
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened;
- Optional: mustard or mayonnaise for spreading.

- If desired, spread a thin layer of mustard or mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread.
